Well, the biggest thing going on at the moment is our Anniversary Celebration on August 1, 2009. The organization is 120 years old and the low/ no kill policy is 1 year old. I became President last July and developed a new Board of Directors, a new mission and began to create the policies to fulfill that mission.
The everyday operations of the SPCA are guided by the mission, and the policies help to create rules to operate by. The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Operating Officer of the SPCA and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The ED has a great deal of accountability, they must seem endless to the ED, but executing the cash flow budget and the rescue, rehabilitation and sustainable adoptions for our animals are at the top of the list.
Back to my original topic, the Anniversary, it will be held in Cornwall at the Town Hall from noon to 5:00pm on August 1 (rain date August 2). My wife Connie has been spearheading the initiative and learning just how difficult and time-consuming it is. So if for no other reason, come out to the event for her sake. Seriously, this is one way you can help animals and have a lot fun at the same time. It will be action filled with continuous live performances, about 20 interesting vendors, interactive gaming (Best Buy will be there along with their GEEK Mobile) and of course our animals. If you download our adoption form, pay $10 (PayPal or send check), show up that day – you may take home your companion. We need a couple of days to do a veterinarian check after we get your application. There is stuff to win as well. We will be raffling off a Sharp LCD TV and a Blue Ray player (donated by my neighbor Michelle DeMarco Regina and her husband) as well as a separate raffle of a Wii and one game (donated by Best Buy). Intrepid Computing, our local (Cornwall) service provider will also be there.
I hope to see you on August 1, we will be signing up members – become part of our army of the compassionate, it’s a great feeling.
